CULLOWHEE, N.C. - A recent release by the National Fast Pitch Association (NFCA) lists Western Carolina University softball 44th, with a team GPA of 3.295, in its 2011-12 All-Academic Team. Six Catamounts from the team were also named All-America Scholar Athletes.
The Catamounts 44th ranking is just below fellow Southern Conference member Georgia Southern who clocked in at 22nd with a 3.42 GPA.
Western Carolina recent graduates and seniors on the game in 2012, Bekah Burkett (3.78), Katie King (3.8) and Megan Taylor (3.8) each made the scholar athlete list for 2011-12. It was King's fourth straight appearance. Also honored were senior Haley Pace, with a perfect 4.0, as well as junior Makenzi McAteer (3.6) and sophomore Megan Crowe (3.8).
The award is given to any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2010-11 academic year. The award is the second component of the Association's academic award program.
