2009 Western Carolina Softball Schedule

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina Head Softball Coach Christine Hornak announced the 2009 schedule this week.

The Catamounts will be in three tournaments to begin the season, spending the month of February on the road. Western Carolina opens the season at the UCF Tournament in Orlando, Florida February 13-15. The following week, the Catamounts will travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to participate in the Coastal Carolina “Kickin’ Chicken Classic” Febraury 21-22. Western Carolina closes out its tournament portion of the schedule traveling to Honolulu, Hawaii to play in the Hawaii Invitational.

After a month on the road, Western Carolina opens the home portion of its schedule welcoming rival and Southern Conference opponent UNC Greensboro March 7-8. The month of March will also hold home games with SoCon member Georgia Southern and also a non-conference tilt with Lipscomb. The Catamounts will travel to Elon and College of Charleston for SoCon weekend series and will also face ACC member Georgia Tech.

Western Carolina will spend most of the month of April at home at the Catamount Softball Complex. The club opens April by hosting USC Upstate on April 1 and then faces North Carolina A&T sandwiched between SoCon series with Chattanooga and Appalachian State. The Catamounts will then spend the next two weeks on the road traveling to new SoCon member Samford, going to Georgia on April 22 and closing out the conference season at Furman.

The Catamounts will play their final regular season game against East Tennessee at home on April 29. The Southern Conference Tournament will be May 6-9 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
