Softball Tops Easton/NFCA Academic Team with Highest GPA in NCAA Division I

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Western Carolina softball posted the top NCAA Division I GPA, with a 3.673, as the Easton/NFCA Top 10 Academic Team rankings for the 2016-17 school year were announced today. The rankings recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across seven membership divisions.

The ranking is the highest in school history for the Catamounts, as the club posted a ranking of fifth in the 2016-17 season. The top spot is also the highest by a softball team from the Southern Conference. The next highest mark for a Southern Conference school, in the 2016-17 season, was No. 41 by ETSU who had a team GPA of 3.448.

NCAA Division I
1. Western Carolina -- 3.673; 2. Missouri State -- 3.648; 3. Alabama -- 3.647; 4. Middle Tennessee State -- 3.616; 5. Sacred Heart -- 3.605; 6. Saint Louis -- 3.594; 7. Harvard -- 3.588; 8. Troy -- 3.585; 9. Western Kentucky -- 3.569; 10. Kent State 3.568.
