Catamount Softball Adds Seven to Roster for 2015

Listed below is a snapshot of each player in Western Carolina softball's 2015 recruiting class.


Cyr

State College of Florida:As a sophomore, led the team with a .384 batting average with 63 hits, 36 runs, 46 RBI, 11 doubles and seven homeruns ... Earned First Team All-Conference ... As a freshman, she had a .421 batting average, seeing action in 20 games before being sidelined the remainder of the year with an injury.

Interesting Fact:Participates in kick-boxing.

Family:Mother Roxane Cyr, has two brothers, Dale and Malcolm.


Daniels

High School:In 2014 at Davie County High School, had a .406 batting average with 54 hits, 50 runs, 34 RBI, four doubles and 31 stolen bases ... As a sophomore and junior named All-District and All-Conference.

Interesting Fact:Coaches a middle school softball team.

Family:Father- Chuck Daniels, Mother-Michele Daniels, Brother- Dawson.


Flores

High School:As a senior at Springfield High School, had a .400 batting average with 25 RBI, 23 walks and 14 stolen bases ... In her senior year she was also named First Team PTC All-Conference H.M. NEO All-District, Team Captain and Spartan MVP as well as Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award ... As a junior had a .398 batting average as a junior and named Second Team All-Conference ... Had a .310 batting average as a sophomore and a .451 batting average as a freshman and was also named First Team All-Conference and tabbed Spartan Defensive Player of the Year.

Family:Father - Robert Flores, Mother - Lori Flores, Brother- Kyle, Sister- Kristin.


Grimsley

High School:Played at Dillon High School ... As a junior had a .546 batting average and was named All-State and MVP helping lead team to a record of 27-5 and won the region and district ... As a junior had a .574 batting average and was also all-state and all-region ... In her freshman year had a .596 batting average and named all-state.

Interesting Facts:In 2013 played high school football helping lead the team to a state championships and awarded the 2013 Outstanding Achievement Award for Non-Female Sports ... In 2012, she became the first female player to score points in the state football championship game and being named all-state as the team went on to win the state championship.

Family:Father - Timmy Grimsley, Mother - Terry Grimsley, Brother - T.J. Grimsley.


Helton

High School:Played at Hebron Christian Academy ... Had a .402 career batting average ... In her senior year, hit .395 with a .487 on base percentage, three doubles, two triples and one homerun ... Also her senior year, named First Team All-Region 8A, Honorable Mention All-Gwinnett County, Best Defensive Award ... As a junior, had a .414 batting average with four triples and also named First Team All-Region 8A and First Team All-CIW ... In her sophomore year, hit .419 with 10 RBI and 27 runs and named First Team All-Region 8A and All-Gwinnett County ... Hit .382 as a freshman and named All-region 8A.

Interesting Facts:Father Timothy Helton played college baseball at Erskine College and also played on a national slow pitch softball team ... Uncle David Chadwick played basketball and the University of North Carolina ... Emily has been to over 100 Atlanta Braves baseball games and when she was younger, former Braves' player Andruw Jones knew her by name.

Family:Father - Timothy Helton, Mother - Lila Helton, Sister - Natalie.


Hughey

High School:In her junior year at Jimmy C. Draughn High School named All-Conference, All-District with a .511 batting average 15 RBI and 13 runs and 15 RBI ... As a sophomore, named All-Conference hitting .480 with two homeruns, 25 runs and 20 RBI ... In her freshman year, named All-Conference with a .269 batting average, three homeruns, 18 runs scored and 14 RBI.

Interesting Fact:Brother, Nicholas was a pro motor-cross racer for two years.

Family:Father - Joey Hughey, Mother- Lesia Hughey, Brother- Nicholas Hughey.


Mariscal

Pima Community College:As a sophomore, named Second Team All-Conference with a .388 batting average, 20doubles, six homeruns homeruns and 29 RBI ... In her freshman year, NJCAA Region I Champion, second runner-up, NJCAA National Tournament and All-ACCAC utility player hitting ..396 with 13 doubles, two homeruns and 48 RBI.

High School:Played at Douglas High School ... first team all-conference (all 2013) ... High school second team all-Southern Arizona ... Class valedictorian.

Interesting Facts:Father, John played basketball at College of Santa Fe and Brother, Cristobal played baseball at Cochise Community College.

Family: Father - John Mariscal, Mother - Gloria Garcia Mariscal, Brothers - Oliver and Cristobal.
