CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball player Mollie Fowler was one of 11 student-athletes named to the 2008 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Softball Team as announced today.
Fowler, a redshirt sophomore from King, N.C., made the NCCSIA Team at the designated player position. She led the Catamounts in 2008 with seven homeruns and hit the first grand-slam of her career in a 10-0 victory over Southern Conference foe College of Charleston. She also paced the club with 30 RBI and ranked second on the team with a .290 batting average.
The fifth-annual team consists of NCAA Division I student-athletes from North Carolina colleges and universities. North Carolina sports information professionals submitted the nominees and NCCSIA members voted for the all-state teams, which consist of two pitchers, one catcher, four infielders, three outfielders and one designated player.
This is the third consecutive year Western Carolina softball has placed members on the NCCSIA team. The Catamounts had three in their inaugural season and one last year in third baseman Stephanie Beatty.
