STARKVILLE, Miss. - Western Carolina University senior softball player Erin Foster was today named to the NFCA MidEast First Team All-Region Team. She is now eligible for NFCA All-American honors.
Foster, an outfielder from Salisbury, N.C., becomes the first player in Catamount softball history to garner a First Team Mid-East All-Region honor. A 2012 First Team All-Southern Conference selection, Foster ended the season tied for second in the SoCon record books for homeruns in a single season with 18. She was also a two-time SoCon Player of the Week and Player of the Month for April.
The 18 homeruns also ranked second in the Catamount record books for homeruns in a season and her 21 career homeruns is tied for second in the WCU record books. Foster ended her career topping the Catamount record books for triples in a career with six.
Foster led the team with a .363 batting average and also paced the team with 66 hits, the most by a Catamount softball player since 2007, when Stephanie Beatty had 70. The 66 hits also ranks her second for hits in a single season in the Catamount record books.
Her 54 RBI ranked her second in the WCU single-season record books and her 46 runs scored ranked her third. She ended the season having reached base safely in 23 consecutive games. Foster also had 22 multiple hit games and 15 multiple RBI games.
Foster came to Western Carolina, in 2011, as a junior college transfer from Walter's State Community College where she was a NJCAA Second Team All-American.
