Catamount Softball Wrap-Up to the 2015 Season

Senior pitcher Jordan Garrett ended her Catamount career with a school record 740 career strikeouts.

CULLOWHEE, N.C. -- With Western Carolina softball wrapping up the 2015 season last week at the 2015 Southern Conference Championships, it is time to recap the season and re-live the magical run the Catamounts had in the championships.

NOTEABLE NOTES AND HIGHLIGHTS OF THE SEASON:

  • Western Carolina reached the semi-finals of the Southern Conference Softball Championships in 2015 for the second time in the program's nine year history ... WCU's first appearance came in the semi-finals in 2007.
  • Western Carolina went 2-2 in the 2015 SoCon Championships tying its best record with the 2007 team ... It is also the most SoCon Championship wins for Head Coach Jim Clift who is completing his fourth year at the helm of the program.
  • The Catamounts placed a program record two players on the 2015 SoCon All-Tournament team with the naming of senior pitcher Jordan Garrett and sophomore left fielder Courtney Price.
  • Western Carolina won its opening game in the SoCon Championships for the second time in three years defeating Furman 6-1.
  • Senior pitcher Garrett ended her career with a school record 740 strikeouts ... She also went over 200 strikeouts for a season for the second time in her four-year career ending 2015 with 206.
  • Garrett's 40 starts and innings pitched (220.1) in 2015 are both a school record.
  • Senior Heather Chastain ended 2015 with a season-best .306 batting average -- the first time in her four-year career she has ended a season hitting over .300.
  • Western Carolina's 38 homeruns is tied for third, with the 2007 team, for most homeruns in a season ... WCU hit four of its 38 homeruns in four games at the SoCon Championships.
  • Junior Taylor Sigmon became the only Western Carolina softball player to earn Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District III honors in back-to-back seasons (2014 and 2015).
  • Sigmon tied her own school record with six saves in the 2015.
  • Garrett's 16 wins is a season-high and is the second-most wins by a Catamount pitcher since the team's inaugural season in 2006.
  • Price hit a team-leading, and career best, .327 in 2015 ... She also had a season-high, and team leading 54 hits ... The 54 hits ranks tied for eighth in the Catamount record books for hits in a season.
  • Junior Crystal Cyr led the team with eight homeruns.
  • Western Carolina hit three grand-slams as a team in 2015.
  • Chastain ended the 2015 season having reached base in 17 straight games.
  • Salvo had 10 doubles in 2015 which is tied for fifth for most doubles in a season.
  • Freshman Anna Hughey had four hits in the 2015 season with her final hit of the year her first homerun as a Catamount against Furman in the semi-finals of the SoCon Championships.
  • Western Carolina took three SoCon series including sweeping Samford, who earned a No. 2 seed in the SoCon Championships, in the 2015 season.
  • The Catamounts lose two starters from the 2015 squad, pitcher Garrett and catcher Chastain ... The Catamounts outfield will remain intact for the 2016 season as well as its infield ... WCU should be a conference and fan favorite in the coming year.
