CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball's Jordan Fulton, Haley Pace and Robyn Burnette were named to the Southern Conference All-Freshmen team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday. The all-conference selections are voted on by the league's nine head coaches.
The trio of Catamount players on the All-Freshmen list leads the conference. Appalachian State had two followed by Elon, Furman, UNC Greensboro, Samford and Chattanooga each earning one.
Fulton ended the 2010 season leading the Catamounts with a .323 batting average which ranked her 15th in the Southern Conference. Fulton broke the school record for stolen bases in a season with 16, ranking her ninth in the Southern Conference. Her 54 hits not only paced Western Carolina, it ranked her ninth in the conference, and also ties her for seventh place for hits in a season in WCU record books. Fulton also topped the team with 30 runs scored, which ties for 10th in Catamount record books for runs scored in a season.
Pace led the Catamounts with five homeruns and RBI with 21. She also ranked second in hits (36) and runs scored (22) and had a .247 batting average. She also played in 52 of the team's 53 games this season.
Burnette rounds out the Catamount youngsters on the Southern Conference All-Freshmen Team. Her .255 batting average ranked second on the team. She had eight stolen bases in the season, with ties her for fourth in the Western Carolina record books for stolen bases in a season. She ended the year with 25 hits, six doubles, 14 runs scored and four RBI.
The trio of Catamounts on the Southern Conference All-Freshmen Team is the most in school history. Western Carolina softball completed its season last weekend at Appalachian State.
