CULLOHWEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball first baseman Lauren Ross was named Southern Conference Co-Player of the Week as announced by the league office today. Ross shares the honor with Elon shortstop Tracey Dahlen.
Ross had a career day in a doubleheader against Winston-Salem State last week, going 4-for-5 with three home runs and seven RBI in the two-game sweep of the Rams. In game one, Ross connected on a two-run homer in the first inning and followed that up with a three-run shot in the bottom of the third. The Hope Mills, N.C., native carried the momentum into game two when she collected an RBI single and a solo home run. Ross enters this week's SoCon Tournament with a 10-game hitting streak.
This is the second player of the week honor in her Catamount career.
Western Carolina opens the 2008 Southern Conference Tournament as the No. 8 seed and will play No. 1 seed Chattanooga at noon Wednesday in Charleston, S.C. at Patriot's Point.
