CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball sophomore catcher Danielle Reese was named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office today.
Reese had a huge showing at the plate for Western Carolina in their seven games last week, helping the Catamounts to a 6-1 record. She picked up at least one hit in six of the seven games and had multiple hit performances in the doubleheader against Winston-Salem State, two in the first game and three in the second. She also scored three runs in the second game against Winston-Salem State.
It was Reese's RBI single in the top of the third inning that broke a scoreless game open in the third game against Georgia Southern - her single to the left side scored the first run of the game and prompted a three-run inning; which would prove to be all the offense WCU would need to clinch the series win over the Eagles. For the week, Reese had a .346 batting average with nine hits, seven RBI, scored seven runs, had a double and was 3-for-3 in stolen bases.
Reese carries a 3.761 GPA in Political Science. This is the first Southern Conference Student-Athlete honor of her Catamount Career.
