CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball (16-29, 3-12 Southern Conference) returns home on Saturday and Sunday to host Elon in a three-game Southern Conference series at the Catamount Softball Complex.
Saturday's doubleheader begins at 1 p.m. and Sunday's single game also has a 1 p.m. start time. Erin Foster NAMED SOCON PLAYER OF THE WEEK: For the second time this season, senior outfielder Erin Fosterhas been named Southern Conference Player of the Week ... Foster becomes the first Catamount softball player, in the program's history, to earn player of the week honors multiple times in one season ... Foster turned in an average of .522 with 12 hits in Western Carolina's seven games last week and recorded multiple hits in four of those seven ... She scored eight runs, had eight RBI, two doubles and did not strike out in seven games.
FOSTER 8TH IN NATION IN HOMERUNS: Erin Fosternow has 15 home runs this season, which ties her for eighth in the nation, leads the league and ranks second in the Catamount record book ... Her 54 hits ranks her second in the conference, also, her 43 RBI ties her for second in the WCU record books for RBI in a season ... Foster is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak, the longest by a player this season ... In those 10 games, she is hitting .514, has 18 hits, three doubles, six homeruns, 12 RBI and also scored 12 runs ... She has a 1.114 slugging percentage and a .541 on base percentage and has struck out just once in those 10 games.
CATAMOUNTS ON HITTING STREAKS: Including Erin Foster's 10-game hitting streak, WCU has five players on hitting streaks ... Amelia Griffin and Shemekia Scotton have both gotten hits in the last five games, Amber Steinhardt and Haley Pacehave gotten hits in the last two games.
SCOTTON AT LEFT FIELD: Junior Shemekia Scotton spent the weekend series, against Chattanooga, in left field after starting left fielder Jordan Fultonfell ill ... Scotton found success in left field, hitting .625 with five hits, a double, a run scored and one RBI.
NUMBERS IN CONFERENCE: Western Carolina has three players hitting above .300 in Southern Conference games ... Morgan Wyatt is hitting .423, at the DP position in 10 games, with 11 hits, five doubles, a triple, four RBI and three runs scored ... Erin Foster is at .388 in SoCon games with 19 hits, 10 runs scored, 11 RBI, two doubles and has hit five of her 15 homeruns in conference games ... Kelly Bramanrounds out the players hitting .300 or above with a .340 batting average and ranks second on the team in hits, in SoCon play, with 16.
FACING ELON: Western Carolina is 4-9 against Elon all-time ... The Phoenix have won the last six meetings ... The last two meetings, held at Elon in 2011, were both decided by one run, with Elon taking the games 1-0 and 7-6 ... Western Carolina is 2-6 against Elon at home.
