CULLOWHEE, N.C. -Western Carolina softball (11-19) heads on the road Wednesday for a mid-week non-conference doubleheader at USC Upstate (23-3). The doubleheader is slated to begin at 4 p.m. at Cyrill Stadium in Spartanburg, S.C.
The Spartans mark the first of three teams the Catamounts will play, in the next two weeks, either receiving votes or ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Coaches Top-25. USC Upstate is just out of the Top-25 receiving six votes. Western Carolina is scheduled to face No. 8 Tennessee on April 1, in Knoxville, Tenn., and No. 23 Georgia on April 10.

Softball Falls to USC Upstate 9-0
Western Carolina softball (2-2) dropped its final game, in the Subway Upstate Classic, 9-0 in five innings to host USC Upstate (4-0) Sunday at Cyrill Stadium.
Sophomore pitcher Jordan Garrettcontinues to lead the Southern Conference with 142 strikeouts this season ... She is just five strikeouts from matching her strikeout total of 2012 ... Garrett is currently ranked 45th in the nation in strikeouts per a seven inning game averaging 8.4.
Sophomore second baseman Megan Croweis currenlty on a five-game hitting streak and leads the team in batting average with a .333.
Western Carolina earned its first Southern Conference series win of the season agasnst Samford last weekend ... The Catamounts took two out of three games, dropping the first game 5-1 before bouncing back to take games two and three (6-2 and 1-0).
The pair of road wins at Samford, on March 23-24, are the first road victories of the season for Western Carolina ... Before the win at Samford on March 23, the Catamounts were 0-3 in road games.
Western Carolina is 0-5 against USC Upstate all time ... The Catamounts lost to the Spartans earlier in the season 9-0.
