SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Western Carolina softball player Mollie Fowler has been named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from March 18-24, the league office announced Wednesday.
Fowler, a senior, claims a 3.753 GPA in elementary education. The King, N.C., native hit .545 with two homeruns and four RBIs in 11 at-bats on the week. Fowler, a candidate for the Lowe's Senior Class Award, hit both home runs in a series-clinching win over Georgia Southern on Saturday.
Fowler is the first SoCon softball player to win the award this season. This is the 10th time a Western Carolina University Student-Athlete has earned this award from the conference office. Senior women's basketball player Brooke Johnson leads all garnering the award three times this season.
Catamount softball goes on the road this weekend for a three-game series at College of Charleston. Doubleheader action begins at 1 p.m. Saturday and the single game is Sunday at 1 p.m.
