CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball (5-6) will compete in its final tournament of the season when it travels to Myrtle Beach, S.C. to compete in the Coastal Carolina Invitational March 1-3. The 13-game event will be played at Carolina Forest High School.
The Catamounts played just two games last weekend, at the 49er Invitational hosted by Charlotte, due to inclement weather. Western Carolina lost both games falling to Sacred Heart 2-0 and Robert Morris 9-7. The Catamounts will try and snap a four-game losing streak at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
Western Carolina meets a pair of teams for the first time in Wichita State and Albany; while the Catamounts are 1-1 against Drexel and are 2-0 against host Coastal Carolina. The Catamounts open the tournament against Wichita State at 10 a.m. Friday.
Senior Shemekia Scotton leads the Catamounts with a .524 batting average but has missed three games due to injury. Scotton returned to the line-up, as a pinch hitter, against Robert Morris and promptly hit a two RBI single.

Junior left fielder Amelia Griffin is on a bit of a tear as she is riding a five-game hitting streak and leads the team with 15 hits. Sophomore catcher Heather Chastain is also picking up her game picking up a season-best three hits in the game against Robert Morris and also tied her game-high with two doubles.
Sophomore pitcher Jordan Garrett has logged the most appearances for Western Carolina with nine and has started six games. She has a 3-5 record and leads the team with 63 strikeouts, ranking her second in the Southern Conference.
