CULLOWHEE, N.C. - After Friday's games, at the 49er Invitational were cancelled due to inclement weather, Western Carolina softball (5-4) will open play Saturday. The Catamounts will face Robert Morris at 1 p.m. and play host Charlotte at 3 p.m.
The tournament will conclude on Sunday with the Catamounts playing Sacred Heart at noon and play Charlotte for a second time, in the tournament, at 4 p.m.
Western Carolina went 3-2 at the Lipton Florida Invitational, including winning three straight, at the tournament. The Catamounts were the only team to take then No. 5 Florida to a full seven innings before falling to the Gators 5-0.

Sophomore pitcher Jordan Garrett recorded double figure strikeouts in all three starts at the tournament at Florida and ended the tournament 2-1. She also picked up a save in the 3-0 win over College of Charleston. Garrett also had a career-high 14 strikeouts in the 2-1 loss to Savannah State. Garrett currently leads the Southern Conference with 55 strikeouts.
Senior shortstop Shemekia Scotton leads the team with a .500 batting average and is tied with junior left fielder Amelia Griffin with 10 hits. Scotton also paces the team with eight RBI.
Western Carolina will face host Charlotte who is riding a five-game winning streak after defeating Sacred Heart on February 21, 5-2. It will be the third meeting between the Catamounts and the 49ers with each team having won one. The Catamounts face Robert Morris and Sacred Heart for the first time.
