Catamount Softball Adds Road Trip to Tennessee for 2013

Jan. 29, 2013

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball has added a game at 2013 USA Today/NFCA Preseason ranked No. 6 Tennessee at 6 p.m. April 1. This marks three SEC opponents on the schedule for the Catamounts, in 2013, as WCU will also play at Florida (ranked 14th preseason) and Georgia (ranked 9th preseason).

"We are very excited to have the opportunity to play such top level programs this year," said Head Coach Jim Clift. "Playing SEC teams the likes of Florida, Georgia and Tennessee; it doesn't get much better than that."

Western Carolina opens the 2013 season at the USC Upstate Tournament. The Catamounts jump start the season with University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) at 2 p.m. February 8 and will also face Maine, North Carolina Central and host USC Upstate.

The Tournament at USC Upstate marks four tournaments Western Carolina will participate in this season. The Catamounts will also be traveling to a tournament at the University of Florida, UNCA Charlotte and Coastal Carolina, before entering Southern Conference play on March 9, hosting Appalachian State.

"For a building program, your goal each new season is to take the next step, last year we did that," Clift said. "By all indications, this year we will take another step up. The girls had a great fall and have come in focused and hungry. There is good reason to be excited for the season and our opening tournament at Upstate will be a great opportunity to show that excitement."
