Softball Falls to Mars Hill 7-2 in 12 Innings

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball dropped a 12-inning game, 7-2, to Mars Hill Thursday at the Catamount Softball Complex.

After four scoreless innings, Mars Hill scored a lone run in the top of the fifth inning. The Lions pushed the lead to 2-0 with a homerun in the eighth inning.

The Catamounts tied the game in the bottom of the ninth inning, 2-0. Sophomore Heather Chastain drew a one out walk to set up the score. Taylor Sigmon followed with a single. Senior Haley Pace sent a shot to centerfield for a two RBI double to knot the game at two.

The Lions roared back in top of the 10th with a three run homerun to re-claim the lead 5-2. Mars Hill tacked on two more runs in the top of the 12th with its third homerun of the game - a two run shot.

Pitchers Jordan Garrett, Mallory Broome and Chandler Terrapin each saw action in the game. Mars Hill had 10 hits in the game and the Catamounts had nine.

Western Carolina will play its final fall doubleheader of the season on Saturday when it hosts Spartanburg Methodist College at noon on October 13.
