CULLOWHEE, N.C.-The Catamounts scored in every inning of the first game, starting with an RBI single by Colby Liles scoring Jordan Fulton. RBI singles by Melissa Wills and senior Kristen Gay accounted for two runs in the second inning.
Western Carolina added a run in the third inning thanks to an RBI single by Haley Pace. The Catamounts exploded for four runs in the fourth inning. SWU committed three errors in the fifth inning, allowing WCU to score three runs and shorten the game to five innings. With the bases loaded, sophomore Chelsea Schaffer hit a fly ball to right field but it was dropped by the SWU player allowing three runs to score and end the game.
In the second game, the tide turned in Southern Wesleyan's favor, leading off the game with a homerun in the first inning and added a second run in the second. Western Carolina tied the game at two in the third inning off an RBI double by Schaffer and an RBI single by Liles.
SWU added two runs in the sixth inning and three in the seventh to pull ahead. The Catamounts added two runs in the sixth inning. Pace had a single and then scored on a triple by Schaffer who then motored home off a SWU error. WCU added a single run in the seventh off an RBI single by senior Danielle Reese.
Western Carolina will be back in action on Tuesday hosting Young Harris at 5:30 p.m. It will be a single 10-inning game.
