CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina softball dropped a doubleheader to Walter's State 11-1, 8-5 Tuesday in a fall ball contest.
There were a lot of new faces on the squad, welcoming nine newcomers to the club. It was a mixture of new players and returning players, as almost the whole club saw action.
In the first game, the Catamounts were held scoreless through the first six innings before scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. With runners on second and third, Shemika Scotton hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Haley Pace. Sophomore Katie King hit an RBI single for the second game.
A two run homerun by Walter's State gave the team an early 2-0 lead after the first inning. A two RBI single by Amber Steinhardt tied the game. Walter's State pulled ahead in the ensuing innings. The Catamounts had three runs in the bottom of the seventh, to mount a comeback but couldn't et any closer.
