BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Western Carolina softball dropped a pair of games to Samford Sunday including the game resumed from Saturday, 7-2, and the SoCon finale 14-6, in five innings, at the Samford Softball Complex.

Turning Point
Samford hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first and went on to add four runs over the next five innings holding Western Carolina to two runs.

How it Happened
- Samford opened up the game with a three-run homerun to build an early 3-0 lead after the first inning. - Western Carolina picked up a run in the top of the fourth after Madison Armstrong singled and Shaina Reed hit an RBI double scoring Armstrong.
- Samford answered with two runs each in the bottom of the fourth and fifth.
- Armstrong scored her second run of the game when she hit a solo homerun with one out in the top of the sixth.
- After Reed singled up the middle, after Armstrong's homerun, the game was suspended due to inclement weather. The game was picked up at 4 p.m. EST on Sunday which saw neither team score in the remaining 1.2 innings of play.

Inside the Box Score
- Western Carolina outhit Samford eight to seven.
- Kinsey Liscio got the start and went four innings falling to 2-7 on the year. She gave up five runs on five hits and struck out two. - Freshman Kayla Brewer saw her first action on the mound replacing Liscio. She went two innings giving up two runs on two hits.
- Erica Hayes, Armstrong and Reed each had a pair of hits in the game.

Turning Point
Samford scored 14 runs over the first four innings to shorten the game to five innings.

How it Happened
- Just like in game two, Samford jumped out early and benefitted from a Western Carolina error and a Bulldog homerun to build a 5-0 lead after the end of the first inning.
- The Bulldogs added three runs in the bottom of the second and went on to tack on six runs in the fiving innings played due to the run-rule.
- Western Carolina attempted a rally in the top of the fifth scoring six runs but it wasn't enough to avoid the run-rule. Danielle Chapman started it off with a lead-off homerun. After back-to-back fielder's choice and a Samford throwing error placed two Catamounts on base, Long hit a three-run homerun scoring Brewer and Hayes. Hunter Gibbons drew a walk and Armstrong reached on a Samford error. Reed doubled down the left field line for two RBI scoring Gibbons and Armstrong.

Inside the Box Score
- Haley Brogden got the start for Western Carolina, but after giving up eight runs in one inning of work, she was lifted for Liscio with no outs in the bottom of the second. Brogden falls to 3-5 on the year. -
Liscio went 2.2 innings before being replaced by Brewer.
- Western Carolina had eight hits in the game and Samford had 14.
- Western Carolina hit two homeruns in the fifth inning.
- Long and Chapman had a pair of hits in the game.

News & Notes
- Gibbons had her 17-game on-base streak snapped in game two against Samford.
- With a hit to lead off the third game against Samford, on Sunday, Hayes extends her hit-streak to four games. - Chapman's homerun was the second of her career.
- Long's homerun was her sixth of the season and her second three-run homerun of the series with Samford.

Western Carolina returns home Tuesday to host Winthrop, in a doubleheader that was rescheduled from earlier in the year, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Catamount Softball Complex.
