CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's soccer players Kelly Pannell and Kimberly Sullivan were named to the 2013 NCCSIA (North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association) All-State Second Team as announced Monday.
Pannell, a sophomore forward from Sale Creek, Tenn., led Western Carolina in every offensive statistical category. She paced the team in goals (8), assists (5) and points (21). Pannell scored a pair of goals in two games. She also had the game-winning goal in the 2-0 win over Western Kentucky who went on to win the regular season in the Sun Belt Conference.
Sullivan, a redshirt sophomore midfielder from Portsmouth, R.I., had a goal, an assist and scored three points for the Catamounts in the 2013 season. She also scored the game-winning goal in a key 1-0 overtime win at Chattanooga to help lock in a spot in the 2013 Southern Conference Women's Soccer Championships.
This is the second straight year two players from Western Carolina have made the NCCSIA second team. Former player Laura Greb and current player Markie-Lynn Studnicky were honored on the team in 2012.
Western Carolina women's soccer ended the season with a 10-9-1 record and 4-6 mark in the Southern Conference. The Catamounts earned a No. 8 seed in the Southern Conference Championships before falling 2-0 at No. 1 seed Furman in the first round of the tournament.
