ASHEVILLE, NC - The Southern Conference announced its women's soccer all-conference teams today. Western Carolina's Debbie Hensley was named the Southern Conference Coach of the Year while Jordan Howell was named to the first team.
Western Carolina's third-year head coach Debbie Hensley, whose team was picked seventh in preseason polls but won a share of the regular season crown, led the Lady Catamounts to their first SoCon title, compiling a 14-5 overall record and an 8-2 mark in the conference. It is also the first-time Hensley, who was a two-time all-conference performer at Georgia Southern (1993-95), has been honored.
Forward Jordan Howell was WCU's lone first-team selection, but the Lady Catamounts placed four on the second team led by goalkeeper Mandi Tinsley. She was joined by midfielder Nardia Moore, junior defender Jamie Pawlik, and forward Lauren Bramlett. Moore has been named to the All-Southern Conference second team the past two seasons. She and Tinsley were also named to the all-tournament team in 2000.
The squad is voted upon by the conference's women's soccer coaches. The three co-conference champions, Furman, UNC Greensboro, and Western Carolina, had nine of the 11 first team selections, 15 of 22 overall.
