SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Western Carolina women's soccer freshman forward Markie-Lynn Studnickywas named to the Southern Conference First Team, as well as to the SoCon All-Freshmen Team, as announced by the league office today.
Studnicky, who hails from Apex, N.C., becomes the first Western Carolina women's soccer player in school history to not only be named to the SoCon First Team, but also to the All-Freshmen Team in the same season. She is also the first Catamount women's soccer player to be named to the SoCon First Team since Shanna Schmokerin 2008.
With nine goals this season, Studnicky paced Western Carolina women's soccer and was just one goal shy of tying for fifth for most goals in a season. Her nine goals rank her third in the Southern Conference. The nine goals are the most scored by a Catamount in a single season since 2005. She also led the team with a total of 20 points and had two assists.
