Williams Named SoCon Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Oct. 27, 2009
Spartanburg, S.C. - Western Carolina junior goalkeeper Caitlin Williams has been named the Southern Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week for all games played October 20-26. Williams recorded two shutout victories as the Catamounts earned road wins at Furman (2-0) and Wofford (1-0) last week. Williams made four saves against Furman Friday night and picked up two more against the Terriers Sunday afternoon. Her shutout against Wofford gave her nine for the season, breaking her own school record of eight which she set last year. Williams has not allowed a goal for 324 minutes, dating back to the 56th minute of the College of Charleston match on October 16. The Liberty, S.C., native is third in the conference with a 0.77 goals against average. She is third in the conference with 72 saves and her nine shutouts is tied for the league lead. The accolade is the fourth of the season for Williams. Earlier this year, she was named the Southern Conference Student Athlete of the Week for Sept. 30. She was also named MVP for the Hurricane Cup Tournament in Miami, Fla. and has two All-Tournament honors this season from the Hurricane Cup and the Catamount Classic. "Caitlin has worked incredibly hard all season," noted Catamounts coach Tammy DeCesare. "Even though we hit a rough patch in the middle of the season, she has been very solid for us. It is nice to see her getting recognition." WCU will (7-6-5, 4-3-3 SoCon) close out the season Friday night at home against Appalachian State. The match kicks off at 6:00 p.m. at the Catamount Athletic Complex. Fans in attendance will have an opportunity to win Bojangles Gift Cards ranging from $1 to $100 dollars.
