SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Western Carolina women’s soccer player Megan McCallister has been named the General Shale Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for competition held Oct. 11-17, the league office announced Wednesday.
McCallister, a junior from Asheville, North Carolina, scored a hat-trick in a 4-0 win over Wofford on Sunday. McCallister got the Catamounts on the board early, scoring in the 13th and 15th minutes to give Western Carolina a 2-0 lead. McCallister scored her third goal in the 57th minute, becoming just the third player in Western Carolina women’s soccer history to score a hat-trick.
McCallister, who is a recreational therapy major, holds a 3.477 grade point average.
The Catamounts close out regular season play Sunday at ETSU in a key Southern Conference match-up. Game time, in Johnson City, Tenn., is set for 2 p.m.
