Due to wind and heavy rain associated with Tropical Storm Tammy, the Southern Conference women's soccer match between the Western Carolina Catamounts and Furman Lady Paladins scheduled for tonight has been postponed, it was announced today by officials at Furman.
Torrential downpours from the 19th named storm of the hurricane season made the field at the Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium on the campus of Furman University unsafe and unplayable. The Catamounts and Lady Paladins have, however, rescheduled the match for Tuesday, Oct. 18 at Stone Stadium with a 7:00 pm kickoff. This marks the second-time this season a weather anomaly has forced the cancellation or postponement of a WCU sporting event. Hurricane Rita, which hit eastern Texas and southwestern Louisiana forced officials to cancel the Western-Nicholls State football game two weeks ago.
Western Carolina returns to action this Saturday, Oct. 8, as it hosts Coastal Carolina in the final non-conference match-up of the season. The Catamounts hold a 3-0 record over the Chanticleers in Cullowhee. Saturday night is WCU Faculty/Staff Appreciation Night where Western employees and a guest receiving free admission with their ID card. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm, under the lights at the new Catamount Athletic Complex.
