Western Carolina Women's Soccer - Top 10 Moments from the First 10 Years Countdown
Cullowhee, NC- The Western Carolina women's soccer team (5-5, SoCon 2-0) will play host to two SoCon opponents this weekend. The Wofford Terriers come in on Friday at 6 p.m., while the Catamounts finish the weekend against the Furman Paladins on Sunday at 2 p.m.
This weekend is also Homecoming at Western Carolina with lots of festivities going on around campus including a post-game fireworks show after the Catamounts take on the Terriers. On Sunday, Western Carolina Women's soccer will honor their 10-year anniversary team during the match against the Furman Paladins.
"The crowd plays into our games more than our fans might realize," Head Coach Tammy DeCesare said. "My hope is that our community and fans create an intimidating atmosphere this homecoming," DeCesare said.

The Catamounts come into the match-up, winners of three straight contests including two last weekend to open up conference play.
Western Carolina opened Southern Conference play with a wire-to-wire victory over the Citadel, 6-0 thanks to five different Catamounts netting a goal. Western Carolina followed up the win, with another victory on the road, 1-0 against the College of Charleston thanks to nine saves from sophomore Caitlin Williams to preserve the shutout.
The Catamounts have won the last two meetings against the Terriers including last year's 1-0 win on the road against Wofford.
The two SoCon wins by Western Carolina last week also marks the first time in school history that the Catamounts have started 2-0 in the conference. Western Carolina is currently tied with Davidson for first place in the conference heading into this weekend.
"This weekend has a lot of implications in our season," DeCesare said. "Should we play to our potential, then this can be the best start in the SoCon for WCU women's soccer, and give us a legitimate chance to play for a regular season Championship," DeCesare said.
Western Carolina will also welcome in the Furman Paladins on Sunday with the contest starting at 2 p.m. The Catamounts will be honoring their 10-year anniversary team during the game and ironically the last time Western Carolina defeated Furman was back in 2005 when the Catamounts took home their first-ever conference tournament championship.
"My favorite moments are when a player grows beyond her comfort zone and achieves beyond what anyone thought she could - in academics, athletics or life," DeCesare said.
Caitlin Williams was named Southern Conference Women's Soccer player of the Week for her outstanding performance last week against the Citadel and the College of Charleston. Williams posted two shutouts including ten saves; nine came against the College of Charleston, helping the Catamounts to a 2-0 record in the SoCon.
Western Carolina hopes to continue their winning ways from last week by coming out strong with the home crowd behind them this weekend.
