Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's soccer team opens Southern Conference play this weekend with matches against Davidson and Georgia Southern at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

WCU will kick off with the Davidson Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Friday and host the GSU Eagles at 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Friday evening's match with Davidson is `Make Some Noise' night. The first 300 fans will receive free Bam Bams. On Sunday afternoon, a Catamount goal will result in a free t-shirt for the first 200 fans.

Earlier this week, the NCAA's Ratings Percentage Index (RPI) ranked the Catamounts 81st in nation and second in the Southern Conference behind UNC Greensboro. Four of WCU's non-conference opponents rank inside the top-100 of the RPI. Western Carolina ranks 29th in the nation in save percentage (.870) and 50th in Goals Against Average.

The Catamounts (3-3-2) are in the midst of a season-long four-game home stand which began last week with a 2-0 win over Jacksonville State and a scoreless draw with rival UNC Asheville.

Junior goalkeeper Caitlin Williams recorded her 17th and 18th career shutouts, tying Mandi Tinsley for number two on the WCU all-time career shutout list. Williams, a Liberty, S.C. native, is just one shutout shy of tying Alesha Row's all-time career mark of 19.

On Friday, WCU will face a strong Davidson team who compiled a pair of tough 3-2 losses last week to Richmond and Virginia Tech. The Wildcats (3-6-0) have recorded wins over Winthrop, Francis Marion and High Point. Last season, the Catamounts edged the Wildcats with a 2-1 victory in Davidson, N.C.

Senior's Blakely Low (3 goals) and Kyri Bye-Nagel (2 goals and 1 assist) have held the offense steady with a combined 5 goals and 2 assists. Loring Ward and Jessie Baxa have both seen action between the pipes, starting five and four games, respectively. Ward has picked up both of Davidson's two shutouts this season.

Georgia Southern rolls into Southern Conference play winless this season after a 0-7 start. The Eagles have been outscored 16-3 in their first seven contests, including a 13-1 margin in the first half. Kyrstin Smith and Jenny Anderson have each scored a goal for the GSU offense this season.

Goalkeepers Lauren Santos and Missy Meyers have shared goalkeeping duties and combined for a 2.27 Goals Against Average with a total of 47 saves.
