CULLOWHEE, N.C. - Western Carolina women's soccer will head back out on the road this weekend participating in the ECU Soccer Tournament hosted by East Carolina University in Greenville, N.C. August 30 and September 1.
The Catamounts open the tournament on Friday taking on UNC Wilmington at 5 p.m. Sunday Western Carolina will face off against host East Carolina at 2 p.m.
With a 2-0 start to the 2013 season, Western Carolina has logged a pair of shutouts in its first two games of the year. The Catamounts opened the season with a 2-0 home victory over Lipscomb on August 23 and defeated Eastern Kentucky by the same score in Richmond, Ky. on August 25.
The Catamounts have benefitted from a balanced attack during the opening weekend as four different players found the back of the net. Sophomore Kelly Pannell has two assists on the four goals scored.
Junior Jenny Lauer and freshman Carly Tinstman split the team's keeper duties last weekend, each playing a half, teaming up to record five saves and two shutouts. Lauer has both wins as the team was leading after the first half in both matches.
Western Carolina holds a 1-0 record in its lone meeting with UNC Wilmington as the Catamounts defeated the Seahawks in Wilmington September 18, 2011. The Catamounts are 1-4 against Sunday's opponent host East Carolina ... Western Carolina's lone win against ECU came in Cullowhee on September 26, 2004 defeating the Pirates 2-0. ECU is 3-0 against WCU in Greenville, N.C.
