Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's soccer team embraces its first full weekend of action as it hosts East Tennessee State on Friday before traveling to regionally-ranked South Carolina on Sunday. Friday's match will start at 7:00 p.m., with Sunday's kickoff in Columbia at 2:00 p.m.

The Catamounts mounted their first season opening win since 2005 last week with a 1-0 shutout over Gardner-Webb last Friday, out shooting the Bulldogs 12-to-5. Senior Katie Kole scored her second career goal on a free kick with less than five minutes remaining in regulation for the game winner.

Catamount goalkeeper Caitlin Williams improved to 1-0-0 after deflecting two GWU shots en route to her 15th career shutout, which ranks third all-time in the WCU record books.

On Friday, the Catamounts (1-0-0) will host Atlantic-Sun foe, East Tennessee State. The Buccaneers (0-1-0) fell 2-0 to No. 23 Tennessee last Sunday. The Lady Vols outnumbered ETSU in the shot column, 21-5. Preseason All-conference selection Jordan Monty recorded two of the five shots. Sophomore goalkeeper Megan Masch recorded a game-high four saves in the contest.

The Catamounts are 4-2-1 all-time against the Buccaneers. These two teams last battled on Sept. 16, 2007, as ETSU took the 1-0 shutout in Johnson City. After the conclusion of Friday's contest, Western Carolina will travel to Columbia, S.C., to face regionally ranked South Carolina. The Gamecocks, who are fourth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) South Regional poll, have not played a regular season match, but defeated the Mexican National team 2-0 last weekend.

Last season, the Catamounts secured their first victory over a nationally ranked team as senior Arlan Whittle scored the 1-0 game winner against the Gamecocks. South Carolina was ranked 20th in the nation that weekend.

Again, Friday evening's contest with ETSU kicks off at 7:00 p.m. at the Catamount Athletic Complex.
