Western Carolina's women's soccer team picked up right where they left off last fall, bringing home both first and second place trophies in a weekend indoor tournament held at Tusculum College in Greenville, Tennessee. The WCU team was split into two squads to maximize playing time in the 6 a-side tourney. Those squads faced each other in the championship match after combining for a record of nine victories and one tie throughout the day in games that lasted 30 minutes each. After playing to a 1-1 draw in the championship, the Western players called it even. The sentiment was one of definite overall team unity after a long day of soccer.

"I had to twist their arms just to get them to play that last match," said head coach Debbie Hensley. "They were certainly tired after playing all day. But their primary reason for unwillingness to play at the end was that this team loves each other so much, and did not want to make each other feel bad for the ride back home. Overall, it was a fun day that will hopefully get us ready for Clemson next weekend."

Due to an injury to sophomore goalkeeper Tina Weaver, junior Mandi Tinsley had to mind the Catamount net for both teams during pool play. This meant that Tinsley played for four hours straight at one juncture.

Sophomores Lauren Bramlett and Jordan Howell led Team I with eight goals apiece throughout the day. Sophomore Felicia Wilson tallied eight goals herself for Team II, as junior Kelly Barker chipped in with six.

The Cats will return to action at Clemson this Saturday with the kickoff scheduled for 2pm. Clemson finished the season last fall ranked #10 in the nation after falling in The Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
