Head Women's Soccer Coach Chad Miller Announces 2014 Recruiting Class

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina University head women's soccer coach Chad Millerannounced ten student-athlete additions for the 2014 season. High school and club standouts Chandler Arrowood, Mary Dixon, Alexa Frankeny, Emily Gerulis, Mackenzie Hill, Shannon Maloney, Anna Marie Mellis, Amy Owens, Jessie Pardue and Brianna Sears are set to join the Catamount women's soccer program in the fall of 2014.

"I am excited about the group of players we having coming to Western Carolina next fall," Miller said. "They are not only quality players but are a great group of people and we feel they will represent WCU well both on off the field."

"The 2014 group is a very balanced class and has a great mix of dynamic attacking minded players and some solid defenders and midfielders," Miller added. "We are returning 11 starters from last fall and have a great core group here already within the program. However, I feel with the right preparation several players from this group of young players will come in and have the potential to make an immediate impact on our program."

High School: Weddington High School coached by Powell Williams

Club Team: CESA ECNL coached by Andrew Hyslop

High School Soccer: Freshman and sophomore year named 3A All Conference and All Region ... Junior year named 3A All Conference, All County, All Region and Union County player of the year along with Southern Carolina Conference Player of the year ... Set record for Weddnigton for most goals in a season (33) in 2013 ... Helped lead Weddington to an 18-5-1 record last spring and a Southern Carolina Regular Season Championship.

Club Soccer: NC ODP 2010 & 2011, 2011-12 State Champions U16, 2012 Region III Champions U16, 2012 3rd place National Championships U16. Prior to CESA played for Charlotte Soccer Academy.

Interesting Facts: Sister played college soccer at Catawba (2yrs) and now at University of South Carolina - Beaufort, Cousin Camden Cox currently plays baseball for Montreat College.

High School Soccer: Freshman, sophomore, and junior years named Cape Fear Valley All Conference, sophomore and junior year named All State ... Helped lead team to state play offs all three years.

Club Soccer: NC ODP 2008-2011, NC State Cup Champions 2013, Atlanta Cup Champions 2012, Score Showcase Champions 2012, US Club Regional Champions 2012.

High School Soccer: Named Mid Eastern All Conference for freshman, sophomore, and junior year ... Named All Region sophomore and junior years, Named All State and Mid Eastern Conference Player of the year in 2013.

Club Soccer: Won the NC Premier Division in 2013 and was Runner up in State Cup in 2013.

Helped lead Plymouth to MIAC Conference Championships in freshman and sophomore seasons ... Did not play soccer Junior and Senior seasons of high school ... Also played basketball for Plymouth and was captain for two years, along with being named All-conference for 3 years.

Club Soccer: MRL (U14-U18), Michigan State Cup Quarterfinalist U13-U16, Michigan State Cup Semifinalist U17-U18, Disney Showcase Champions 2013.

Interesting Facts: Mom played college basketball at Ferris State University, Emily also coaches youth soccer.

Academics: Member of the National Honor Society (2012-2014), High honor roll (2010-2013) and Class VP (2010-2013).

High School Soccer: Freshman, sophomore, and junior years named to Mid South All Conference teams ... Junior year named All Region for NCSCA Region 4A also named Fayetteville Observer Player of the Week Junior year ... Helped lead Jack Britt to a 53-21-5 record her first three seasons along with three straight Mid South Conference runner-up finishes. Last spring lead a defense that only allowed four goals in conference play.

Club Soccer: U15 Kepner Cup State Champions, U17 Kepner Cup State Finalist.

Interesting Facts: Grandfather drafted by Philadelphia Phillies, father retired from US Army with three tours to war.

Academics: Member of the National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, Academy of Scholars, Key Club member, 4.0 GPA and class rank in top 20.

High School Soccer: Freshman year named Scholar Athlete ... Junior year named All Region Team ... Helped guide Brookwood to a 40-11-5 record with two regional championships and one runner up finish while also leading them to a state runner up finish her freshman year ... Shannon also set most assists record for a game with (6).

Interesting Facts: One of her uncle's played football for the Indianapolis Colts and another uncle was the head men's tennis coach at the University of Dayton ... Shannon has been a Hospice Volunteer for the past 10 years and volunteers at school for special education students. Academics: Member of the National Honor Society and Scholar Athlete Award.

"With the addition of these 10 talented players, I believe we have added speed, depth, and a tremendously competitive group to our roster for next fall", Miller said. "I would also like to thank Todd Herman, for all the hard work that went into the identification and evaluation of this class."

"As a program we continue to push and have good experience under our belts, the next step for us is competing for a Southern Conference Championship next fall," Miller added. "We are excited about our team and can't wait for August to get here."
