Head Women's Soccer Coach Chad Miller Signs Five for 2012

Head women's soccer coach Chad Miller has added five to the 2012 squad.

Cullowhee, NC - Western Carolina University head women's soccer coach Chad Miller announced the addition of five student-athletes joining the Catamount Soccer Program for 2012. The following have signed: Mary-Kathryn Bradley (Bradenton, FL), Kelly Pannell (Sale Creek, TN), Courtney Rosu (Hammonton, NJ), Amanda Schwartz (Johns Creek, GA) , Markie-Lynn Studnicky (Apex, NC ).

"I am delighted to have this wonderful group of student athletes join our program in the fall of 2012", Miller said, who will be entering his third season next fall. "These young ladies all come from great soccer backgrounds and are hard working and dedicated student athletes. Each of them has special talents that I believe can help bring our program further success in the Southern Conference. We feel they will be excellent compliments to our young program and they will have the ability to play several positions and compete for spots right away. These special players come from great families and we are delighted to call them all Catamounts."

"I also want to thank Todd Herman, my assistant and recruiting coordinator, for all the hard work that went into the identification and evaluation of this class. We simply can't wait for August to get here and to have them join us for the 2012 journey."

Mary-Kathryn Bradley

Club Team: IMG Soccer Academy coached by Marcelo Carrera High School: Manatee High School


High School Soccer: Did not play high school -played year round for IMG. Club Soccer: 2010 Awarded IMG Academy most improved player, Club Directors League Champions 2011, Savannah Senior Showcase Champions 2010, Orange Classic Champions 2010 & 2011, Florida Cup Champions 2011, GSA Showcase Champions 2011, CASL Showcase Champions 2011. Academics: Selected White M for having a grade point average over 3.7, Honor Roll all four years at Manatee.

Family: Father -Ed Bradley, Mother-Jill Bradley, Brothers - Ned Bradley (21) & Will Bradley (13).

Coach Miller: "MK came to us late in the process and we are delighted to have her. She has a wonderful attitude towards the game. She has demonstrated a great work ethic and also has shown a passion and desire to be at Western Carolina University and make a difference. MK has played at a very good level with IMG and has been exposed to top level competition. She is a naturally left sided player in the back which is a position we need to get stronger in."

Kelly Pannell

Position: Forward / Midfielder

Hometown: Sale Creek, Tennessee

Club Team: 95 FC Alliance Black coached by Josh Gray

High School: Baylor School coached by Jimmy Weekley


High School Soccer - scored 12 goals in her senior year helping Baylor School to a national ranking of #3 in ESPN Poll - and back to back TN State Championships in 2010 & 2011, Leading scorer, team MVP in 2010, Named to the All State Team as a junior and All Region Team as a senior.

Club Soccer - helped guide her team to the TSSA 2011 Div I Girls State Championship, 2011 Region 3 Premier League Central - 4th place, Las Vegas Showcase 2011 Finalists. Track - was a part of the Baylor 2009 & 2010 HS Track State Champions in TN, Participated in the 4x200 relay team that set school record with a time of 1:43:65.

Academics:  National Honors Society (10-12th grade) - Peer Tutor (2 years)

Family: Father - Thomas Pannell, Mother - Vicki Pannell, Sister - Taylor Pannell (19)

Coach Miller: "Kelly is a very versatile and athletic player which will allow her to compete for several spots on the field. She has a tireless work rate and can strike a ball extremely well. Kelly has a wonderful attitude towards training and simply loves to compete. She will add to our attacking options upfront and in the attacking midfield position."

Courtney Rosu

Position: Defender

Hometown: Hammonton, New Jersey

Club Team: NJSA 04' Air Storm coached by Kris Anderson

High School: Hammonton High School coached by Lisa Cuneo


High School Soccer - Team Captain in 2010 & 2011, Named 2nd team All Conference as a sophomore and named 1st Team All Conference her junior & senior seasons, senior year named 1st team Atlantic City Press All Star- 3rd team All-South Jersey Team and Courier- Post All Group 3 Team, helped guide her team to their first appearance in history to the South Jersey Group 3 Semi-final game her junior year, she is the first soccer player at Hammonton to be named to the All South Jersey Team.

Club Soccer - Captain, 2011 ranked 3rd in NJ, 2009 CASL Showcase Champions, 2010 NEWSS Tournament Champions, 2011 National Cup XI Mid Atlantic Regional Champions.

Academics:  Class President 2010 - 2011 Inducted into National Honor Society - Ranked 8th in class - Treasurer of Student Council - Historian for Senior Class -Student of the month Nov. 2011

Family: Father - Phillip Rosu, Mother - Kelly Rosu, Brother Dylan Rosu (15)

Coach Miller:  "Courtney possesses a wonderful positive energy with every activity she gets involved with. She leads by example and has a tremendous work ethic that will make those around her better. Courtney can play anywhere across the backline which will give her the opportunity to compete for a number of positions. She is confident with the ball and is very clean with her decisions in the defensive third."

Amanda Schwartz

Position: Midfielder

Hometown: Johns Creek, Georgia

Club Team: UFA 94' Elite coached by Iggy Moleka

High School: Northview High School coached by Jen Barr


High School Soccer - started as a freshman and helped guide Northview to state playoffs for first time in school history, sophomore year earned "Breakout Award" and state finalist 5A GHSA also set record for most goals scored in a season for Northview program, junior year earned Offensive MVP Award and sweet 16 in 5A state playoffs, named Team Captain and All region, Senior named captain - still in progress..

Club Soccer - Played for Atlanta Fire United 94 for 3 years then moved to UFA, ECNL Participant 3 years, National League Participant 2 years, GA State Cup Finalist 2009, Semi-Finalist 2010, Atlanta Cup Champions 2009, R3PL Champions East U17 & U18, GA State Cup Champions 2011, Region 3 Semi-Finalist 2011, Atlanta Cup Champions in 2011.

Academics: Honor Roll 9th and 10th grade, Principals List 9,10,11th grade

Family: Father-David Schwartz, Mother- Nancy Schwartz, Brother Daniel Schwartz (19)

Coach Miller: "Amanda has tremendous vision and the ability to unlock a defense with penetrating passes and runs well with or without the ball to find the open space. She is exceptionally solid in the air and will help us control the middle of the park. Amanda has played at a high club level and has been exposed to top competition along the way which will serve her well here at WCU."

Markie-Lynn Studnicky

Position: Forward

Hometown: Apex, North Carolina

Club Team: 93 CASL Chelsea coached by Rusty Scarborough

High School: Apex High School coached by Kevin Todd


High School Soccer- played 3 years at Broughton High School and made it to the third round of the state playoffs each year and was named All Conference each year. This year she is playing her senior year at Apex and is in progress.

Club Soccer- NC State Champions u15 & u17, NC State Finalists U13, U14 and U16, Region III Champions U15 & U18, Disney Showcase Finalist 2009, US Club Championship Finalist 2007, Ranked 12th Nationally and 1st in North Carolina.

Other Sports- Bowling Team Champion 2012, Basketball - Triangle Flight USBA State Champions.

Family: Father - Richard Studnicky, Mother - Robin Studnicky, Brother TJ Studnicky (15) & Joseph Studnicky (2)

Coach Miller: "Markie will add a new dimension to our attack. She has the ability to get on the end of balls served in the box and is a natural goal scorer. She has a strong athletic frame that will serve her well at the college level and is fearless in the air. Markie has played at the highest level with her CASL Team and that experience has her well prepared for the next step in her career. I'm excited to see her in front of goal for us as I think she will be a force for our program in the years to come."
