Final Stats

Cullowhee, N.C. - In the final home match of their careers, senior Jordan Howell and Lauren Bramlett each had an assist to lead Western Carolina to a 2-1 win over Appalachian State Tuesday afternoon at Schrader Field. The Catamounts improve to 5-9-2 and 2-6 in the Southern Conference, while the Mountaineers fall to 10-3-2, 4-3-1 SoCon.

Heavy winds allowed Appalachian State to dominate possession in the first half. The Mountaineers registered eight of their 14 shots in the first 45 minutes. Despite the being on the defensive most of the first half, Western took a 1-0 lead late in the period (42:43). On Western's lone corner kick of the first half, sophomore Natalie Turgeon headed in a Bramlett pass for Turgeon's first goal of the season.

The Cats, who took advantage of the winds in the second half to take 17 of their 20 shots in the game, scored what proved to be the game winner early in the second period. At the 49:20 mark, Howell beat her defender and centered the ball to a streaking Natasha Moore, who placed the ball in the lower right corner for her first goal of the season.

Appalachian State cut its deficit to 2-1 at the 65:31 mark. From outside the goal box on the right side, Jennifer Rudy found the upper left corner for her fourth goal of the season.

Catamount keeper Tina Weaver turned away eight shots, while the Mountaineer's Breland Meany registered five.

Bramlett paced the Catamounts with nine shots, while Kristen Deon, Turgeon and Stephanie Svoboda were credited with two shots each. Whitney Southard led ASU with five shots.
