Elon, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's soccer team fell in a defensive battle as Elon took the 1-0 victory at Rudd Field on Sunday afternoon.
The Catamounts (5-5-4, 2-2-2 SoCon) fired away four shots in the second half, but four saves from Elon goalkeeper Sydney Little preserved the win for the Phoenix (8-3-2, 4-1-1 SoCon).
Lindsey Nusdeo scored the game winner for Elon with a header from Elizabeth Palmer's corner kick at the 37th minute in the first half.
The Catamounts then fought valiantly edging the Phoenix in shots in the second half, 4-3. Senior Jenny Matteson led the Cats with two shots, both of which were on goal. The final Catamounts last attempt came in the 79th minute with a shot from Matteson, but her shot was scooped away by Little for the save.
WCU goalkeeper Caitlin Williams collected two saves in the contest.
Western Carolina will look to rebound with the College of Charleston on Friday, October 16th. The contest is dubbed `Spirit Night' as part of the WCU Homecoming festivities this week.
