STATESBORO, Ga. - Western Carolina women's soccer (8-4-1, 3-2 Southern Conference) fell 2-0 Friday to Georgia Southern (3-7-2, 1-3-1 SoCon) at Eagle Field.
The loss snaps the Catamounts two-game winning streak. It is also the Southern Conference road loss of the season.
Shots were equal for each squad, which each logging in fix. It was the Eagles' who capitalized in a tight game.
After a scoreless first period, Georgia Southern's Lindsey Vasher sent a shot over Catamount goalkeeper Katie Jacobs' head and in for the score at the 72:50 mark. With two minutes left to play in the match, the Eagles' Courtney Collins took a through ball into the box for the score to round out the game.
Western Carolina had a quality look at the goal early in the second period when Laura Greb took a shot inside the box, but the Eagles' Katie Merson got the save. After the score by Georgia Southern, redshirt junior Kayla Beauduy got a great look at the goal, at the 79:57 mark, but the shot was high and sailed over the goal.
Freshman Madison Lee led the team with two shots.
Western Carolina will continue its road swing, traveling to Davidson on Sunday. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
