Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina (4-1-1) women's soccer team marked its third shutout of the season in a 3-0 victory over Troy State (1-4) Monday afternoon at the Charles W. Schrader Field.

Freshman midfielder Brandy Ossmann started the second half with her second goal on the season when the ball deflected off the Troy State goalkeeper Jessica Murphy for a put back at 48:26. Freshman midfielder Jordan Howell gave the team some cushion with her eighth goal of the season at 63:22 from a free kick that floated into the corner to make the score 3-0.

"I was pleased with the way the team played today. Brandy did a great job of crashing the box and chipped away her first and second goals of the season," said Head Coach Debbie Hensley.

Ossmann scored her first collegiate goal at the 21:50 mark when a pass by sophomore Morgan Foresman deflected off the Trojan keeper. Ossmann tapped the ball in from 15 feet out for the game-winning goal.

The Lady Cats outshot Troy State 30-6 with sophomore Mandi Tinsley playing all 90 minutes in goal and recording four saves. Howell led the team in shots with six, however, it was Ossmann's two goals that secured the win.

Freshman midfielder Lori McClendon recorded three of the Trojans shots with freshmen Natalie Bryant and Casey Wiegly and senior Melanie Russel each addding one.

"I think that we are gaining some momentum heading into out conference play,"stated Hensley on the 4-1-1 start.
