Charleston, S.C. - Western Carolina outshot Charleston Southern 14-8 despite a 1-2 loss to the Lady Buccaneers on Monday, September 4. Western entered the game with an impressive 5-3 victory over Coastal Carolina with freshman Jordan Howell recording a hat trick in her first ever collegiate game.

The Lady Cats retaliated in the second half with the teams lone goal by sophomore Nardia Moore off a pass from Howell at 84:06. The goal came just under 16 minutes after Charleston Southern's second goal of the game by Christi Arnold. After recording only four shots in the first half, WCU answered the 0-1 game with ten shots in the second half.

Charleston Southern's Jennifer Strukel scored the first goal of the game off a wide pass from Arnold with a tough angle throughout the Lady Cats goalkeeper Mandi Tinsley at 38:49 sending the teams into a one goal game.

Moore and Howell marked four shots each for the team while WCU keeper Tinsley recorded five saves on eight shots.
