It took until the 76th minute, in the match, for Western Carolina to finally find the back of the net and secure the win. Senior forward Greb had the corner kick on the right side of the goal and sailed it into the top of the box where Weigel was waiting. Weigel volleyed the ball past the Tennessee Tech goalie Jordan Brown and went into the right side. Greb picked up the assist, her second of the season.
Both teams found shots a premium in the match with nine shots by the Catamounts and just four by Tennessee Tech.
Early in the first half, Western Carolina had a golden opportunity when Tennessee Tech was called for a foul about 10 yards out. Senior midfielder Samantha Hodgegot the call for the penalty kick. Hodge was 1-for-1 in her career in penalty shots, prior to the attempt against Tennessee Tech, connecting on a PK in her redshirt junior season. Hodge's shot looked like it would go in, fooling goalie Brown, but the ball pinged off the left side of the goal post and rolled out.
It was the first shutout of the season for the Catamounts and for Western Carolina goalie Katie Jacobs. Of the four shots taken by the Golden Eagles, Jacobs picked up two saves.
Western Carolina improved to 2-0 in home matches this season and has won three of its last four matches.
