Laramie, Wyo. - Wyoming junior Tamika Wilson scored her team's first goal of the year in the 70th minute lifting the Cowgirls past the Western Carolina Catamounts, 1-0, at the Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex Friday evening.

WCU (0-1-0) was out shot 14-to-4 on the day, with sophomore Shanna Schmoker leading three Catamounts with a pair of shots. Her classmates, Bri Cunningham and Nikki Lombardo, each added one shot in the loss.

The first half set the tone for the entire game with 23 fouls being committed, 15 for the Catamounts and eight for the Cowgirls. The game ended with a total of 44 fouls and five yellow cards.

Wilson scored the game winner on a breakaway after a through ball from freshman Kayla Davis at the 69:43 mark to lift the Cowgirls to the win.

WCU freshman goalkeeper Caitlin Williams was saddled with the loss despite recording six saves in 90-minutes of work.

Western continues its four-day, two-match road swing out west as it visits Northern Colorado on Sunday afternoon at Noon MT / 2:00 pm ET.
