Cullowhee, N.C. – The Western Carolina women’s soccer team continues their recent hot streak during the spring season this past weekend against competitive competition.
The team was split into “A” team and “B” teams again, with the “A” team kicking the day off with a dominating performance against NCAA Tournament qualifier Radford. Unfortunately, due to some stout defending and a phenomenal save by the Radford goalkeeper on a shot by Catamounts forward Bri Cunningham, the game ended in a 0-0 tie.
The “A” team wasn’t to be denied in their second game as they came away with a 1-0 victory over High Point. Cunningham made no mistake from the spot, as her penalty kick proved to be the deciding goal.
The “B” team started their day off with a 1-1 tie against Liberty. Forward Erin Hamilton continued her tremendous start to the spring, scoring the Catamounts’ goal after a brave challenge with the goalkeeper.
In their second game, the “B” team took on High Point’s starting team and fell to a 1-0 defeat. Late into the contest, forward Nikki Collins thought she had tied the game on an outstanding diving header, but the effort was ruled out because of offsides.
The Catamounts conclude their spring season this weekend heading to Johnson City, Tenn. to take part in a round robin tournament hosted by East Tennessee University.
