Assistant Coach Chris Lenzo joined the Catamount coaching staff in August of 2001. He brings a wealth of knowledge of the technical side of the game that has helped improve the overall technical level of the team. In addition, Lenzo has also been instrumental in designing fitness programs for the team as well as tending to administrative duties and recruiting. He worked intensively with the defense in 2002, which gave up only 6 goals in 10 conference matches, and is looking forward to helping a maturing Catamount offense in 2003.
In addition to his work with the Catamounts, Lenzo has been active as a camp instructor at Duke, Furman and Kentucky, as well as helping former Catamount head coach Debbie Hensley direct Western Carolina's soccer camp. He holds a National "D" coaching license from the U.S. Soccer Federation and plans to pursue his "C" license after the 2003 season.
Lenzo began his playing in California and continued in Minnesota after his family moved. He played intercollegiately for Drake University. The former forward, who also saw time at outside midfield and sweeper, is still active in recreational leagues in Asheville.
Lenzo received a bachelor's degree in English from Drake University in 1992. He went on to receive a master's in American Studies from the University of Alabama, and is currently writing his doctoral dissertation for a Ph.D., in Sociology from the University of Georgia.
In addition to his coaching duties, Lenzo is an adjunct professor of Sociology at Western Carolina University. He is married to Dr. Candace Boan, a professor of Psychology and Director of the Graduate Program in School Psychology at Western Carolina University.
