         <description><![CDATA[The Western Carolina Women's Soccer team headed down to Greensboro, N.C. over the weekend to take part in the Olympic Developmental Program Showcase, held at Bryan Park. On Sunday, the Cats played three matches against Lenior-Rhyne, Wake Forest, and East Carolina. Due to potentially severe weather in the area, each game was shortened to 35 minutes. The Cats topped Lenior-Rhyne, 3-0 in the first matchup of the day, but then fell to Wake Forest, 2-0. They closed out the tournament with a 1-0 victory over East Carolina, the team with whom they will face to open up the 2008 regular season.]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[The Western Carolina women's soccer team traveled down to Spartanburg, S.C. today for a trio of 45 minute games against Francis Marion University and USC Upstate. The Catamounts took down Francis Marion in the first game, 1-0, with the lone goal put in by rising sophomore Bri Cunningham, which was all the WCU defense needed as they recorded the shut out. The team will continue their spring season on April 6, when they head to Bryan Park in Greensboro, N.C. to participate in the 2008 ODP Showcase. The Cats will take on Lenoir-Rhyne in the first game at 11:00 a.m., then will battle ACC member Wake Forest in the afternoon tilt, scheduled for 2:00 p.m.]]></description>

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has awarded the Catamount program and head coach Tammy DeCesare with their Team Academic Award for a third-straight time, giving DeCesare the honor of receiving this prestigious honor in each of her first three seasons at the helm. This semester, the WCU women's soccer team had a cumulative team grade point average of 3.53 which ranked the Catamounts tops in the Southern Conference out of the seven teams that were recognized, and seventh nationally among all NCAA Division I programs.
