Cullowhee, N.C. -
Western Carolina Director of Golf and women's head coach Steve Lott today announced the signing of Josefine Sundh (Kumla, Sweden/Virginska Gymnasium) to a National Letter of Intent (NLI) for the 2007-08 season.
Sundh becomes the fifth Swedish-born player to ever play at Western Carolina, joining former player Johanna Lundberg (2000-03) and current Catamounts Malin Fryk (Trollhattan), Desiree Karlsson (Ljunghusen), and Elin Mickelsson (Gavle).
"Today is a great day for our women's golf team," said Lott. "Josefine (Sundh) is a wonderful young lady with an awesome golf game. I have followed her progress for the past couple of years and she continues to impress me with all she has accomplished. Her international experience the last three years will make her a seasoned competitor who will help us climb in the national rankings. I expect her to have an immediate impact on our squad and in the Southern Conference."
Since the summer of 2004, Sundh has played for the Swedish National Team participating in the Italian Open, Spanish Open, French Open, and the Nordic Championships. She also played in the Sweden vs. Nordic Matches in 2005. Sundh, who will graduate from Virginska Gymnasium in June of 2007, is currently ranked in the top 25 in Sweden and inside the top 10 on the Skandia Junior Tour Elit.
Josefine is the daughter of Inger and Jorgen Sundh of Kumla, Sweden.
The Catamounts, who had one of their strongest fall semesters with a team championship and five overall top five team finishes, return to action in the spring semester when they visit Mobile, Ala., for the Lady Jaguar Invitational hosted by South Alabama on March 5-6, 2007.
