For the second-consecutive month, Western Carolina senior Ashley Hovda was honored today by the Southern Conference, earning the league's women's golfer of the month for October.
Hovda (Springfield, Ohio) opened the month by carding the lowest two-round score in WCU history en route to winning back-to-back individual medalist honors at the Wachovia-Great Smokies Intercollegiate at the Waynesville Country Club. Her 10-under par, 134 was five strokes ahead of the second-place finisher. Hovda recorded her third-consecutive top three finish, dating back to the final tourney in Sept., by tying for third at the East Carolina / Taco Bell Intercollegiate. Her three-day, 216 ranked as the third-best, 54-hole tournament score in Western's history
At both the Great Smokies and Taco Bell Intercollegiate, Hovda tied WCU top individual single-rounds by shooting 66 on 18 holes and she continues to rank third on Western's all-time scoring charts.
The Catamount women's golf team returns to action on Nov. 7-8 at the Augusta State / Lady Jaguar Invitational in Augusta, Ga. The two-round, 36-hole tournament will be held at the Forest Hills Golf Club with shotgun starts each day.
