Spartanburg, S.C. - Western Carolina women's golfer Brandy Andersen has been named the TIAA-CREF SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of October 15.

Andersen, a sophomore from Orlando, FL (William R. Boone HS) claimed her fourth career individual title and second this year as the Catamount women's golf team finished in third place Tuesday in the 54-hole Lady Pirate Fall Intercollegiate in Greenville, N.C. Andersen shot a 69 in the final round, which ties for the second-lowest single-round score in WCU history. She took home medalist honors as well as all-tournament honors after completing the event with a one-under par 215, which is a tournament record. She led the team to an 897 finish, which ranks as the third-lowest, three-round score in WCU history.

Andersen won the Elon-Sea Trail Intercollegiate earlier this season carding a 148 for the two-rounds to lead the Catamounts to victory in the event. She fired a 71 on day one and a 77 in the second round, holding off teammate and fellow Orlando product Bianca Melone for the title.

Andersen, the reigning Southern Conference champion, holds a perfect 4.0 GPA at WCU and is on the Dean's List. The Catamounts' standout linkster was named to the TIAA-CREF SoCon Academic All-Conference team last spring, the SoCon Honor Roll and was additionally a National Golf Association All-American Scholar, along with three of her teammates.
