Cullowhee, N.C. - As the 83 women's golfers hit the Waynesville Inn, Golf Resort & Spa course on Monday morning, they will all represent their colleges or universities, but many will be sporting the same colors.

Golfers involved in the first round of the 14th Annual Great Smokies Intercollegiate are encouraged to wear their pink gear through Monday's opening round in a show of support and to raise awareness of breast cancer and breast cancer research.

Then, during Monday night's tournament dinner following the opening round, each member of every team is encouraged to donate what they can into collection jars located on their team tables. Following the tournament, all money collected will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure (www.komen.org) in the name of the Great Smokies Intercollegiate.

"We are excited to do what we can to help promote breast cancer awareness," said WCU head coach Mallory Hetzel. "Being able to make a donation in the tournament's name to such a worthy cause as the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and it is something we hope to continue each year we host this event."

For those who also wish to donate, please make checks payable to WCU Women's Golf, and mail to 92 Catamount Road, Cullowhee, NC 28723.

The 36-hole, Great Smokies Intercollegiate began on Sunday with practice rounds at the par-72, 5,932-yard Waynesville Inn, Golf Resort & Spa. First round play opens with a shotgun start at 9:00 am on Monday morning and will conclude Tuesday with a tournament team and individual medalist to be crowned.

Complete results and recap of the tournament will be available both days online at www.CatamountSports.com.
