Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina landed two women's golfers on the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-American Scholars list announced today as the organization unveiled its list of 644 women's collegiate golfers recognized with this prestigious honor. Sophomore Maria Kjelldorff and freshman Taylor Allison were among those honored by the WGCA.

It is the 13th-straight year WCU has put golfers among the annual honorees and the 11th-consecutive year of multiple selections. Both Allison and Kjelldorff were named to the WCU Dean's List following the spring semester while also garnering 2012-13 SoCon Honor Roll status. Kjelldorff was additionally named 2013 Spring Academic All-Southern Conference.

A total of 16 golfers from six schools in the Southern Conference placed women's golfers on the honorary list including four from both Chattanooga and Elon, while Wofford and Furman had three apiece. WCU put two on the squad with UNCG tallying one selection.

The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics. The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50

Kjelldorff earned her second WGCA All-American Scholar honor as she was also recognized following the 2011-12 season. The Saltsjobaden, Sweden, native ranked second on the WCU squad with a stroke average of 78.40 last season. She boasts a cumulative grade point average of 3.969 while majoring in Entrepreneurship.

Allison paced the Catamounts as a true freshman, averaging 77.84 strokes per round. She led the squad in scoring four times during the season including claiming individual medalist honors at the 2013 Great Smokies Intercollegiate at the Waynesville Inn, Golf Resort & Spa.
