Cullowhee, N.C. - The Western Carolina women's golf program, fresh off its first ever NCAA appearance, has announced its 2003 fall tournament schedule, which includes the annual Wachovia - Great Smokies Intercollegiate hosted by WCU at the Waynesville Country Club in Waynesville, N.C.

The Catamounts start off their '03 tour with two straight trips to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the Unlimited Potential Baytree Classic, hosted by College of Charleston, and the Sea Trail Intercollegiate, hosted by Elon, the Southern Conference's newest member . The Lady Cats finished sixth out of 35 teams at last year's Baytree Classic, shooting a 931 in the three-round tournament.

WCU travels to Lexington, Ky., in early October for the UK - Lady Wildcat Intercollegiate and then heads to Greenville, N.C., for the Bradford Creek - Lady Pirate Intercollegiate, hosted by East Carolina. The Catamounts placed second out of 20 teams at Bradford Creek in 2002, improving their three-round score to a 913. Becca Twiner, a junior last year, led the Cats, finishing in second place individually with a three-day total of 218, which was a WCU record at the time.

Wrapping up the month of October, Western hosts its annual Great Smokies tournament in Waynesville, which will feature 24 schools and include teams as far away as Loyola University of Chicago, Eastern Illinois and the University of Mobile. In 2002, the Cats claimed the victory in their own tournament for the first time ever, carding a 586, which shattered the school's previous two-round tournament score. Freshman Brandy Andersen took home medalist honors after shooting a school and tournament record 66 in round one and finishing with a two-round 141, also a WCU record.

Western completes its fall schedule at the Edwin Watts - Palmetto Intercollegiate in Kiawah Island, S.C., hosted by College of Charleston Nov. 3-4.
