Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina University women's golfer Brandy Andersen (Orlando, Fla.) has been named to the Academic All-District III second team as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), it was announced today.

Andersen, a sophomore, helped lead the Catamounts to a second place finish in the 2004 Southern Conference Championship as she fired a 54-hole score of 239 to tie for 13th individually. For her performance throughout the 2003-04 season, she earned All-Conference first team honors for the second consecutive year.

Andersen took home three individual titles this past season, including the Elon Sea Trail Intercollegiate, the East Carolina Lady Pirate Intercollegiate and a first place showing at WCU's own Wachovia-Great Smokies Intercollegiate. Consequently, Western came out on top in two of the three tournaments, including a come-from-behind victory in its home tournament to claim the second-lowest 36-hole score in school history (592).

For her efforts in the fall, Andersen was crowned the SoCon Female Golfer of the Month in September and October. She was additionally named the TIAA-CREF Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 15. Andersen currently holds the lowest career stroke average in Lady Catamount history at 76.69 through 52 rounds. The ace also holds the lowest single-season stroke average in WCU history at 76.38, which she recorded during the 2003-04 season over 26 rounds.

The 2003 SoCon Freshman of the Year has already had many accomplishments in her young career, including being named WCU's Female Athlete of the Year in 2003 and being voted her team's MVP in 2004. Approaching her junior year with the Lady Cats, Andersen holds a 3.89 grade point average in sport management at Western.
